Phil Evans interview by Nils Swenson

For the film nerds. Favorite tool for capturing a sunset pool session by the beach late august?
Favourite tool for the sunset sessions has to be my little Canon 310xl, the first Super 8 cam I ever received and now I’ve had many.
For all the travelers out there. Favorite destination and. Why?
Favorite destination, I mean it’s not really traveling, but skating with friends in Copenhagen in the summer is hard to beat! Otherwise I’d love to go back to Japan and explore more cities and countryside there.
For all the foodies. Where do you get the best meal and what is it?
I’m probably the least foodie person you’ll meet, especially when I’m working, it’s just energy balls that go in my cake hole. That being said I really like Mr Falafel’s Falafel on Nobelvägen or Henry n Rose chips in Bray.
For all the basketball nerds. Team and player?
I have a hundred favorite players, so let me do a current top 5. (In no order) Jokic, Wemby, Kyrie, Curry, Kawhi. Team: I’ll go with the Knicks. Best arena; they still use the organ player in the rafters too. Not on the bandwagon either; I’ve an extremely discolored Knicks hat to prove I was an early adopter.
How many more legends from Bray than yourself?
Bray is a great source of legends. Al Collins, the best skater in Ireland for many years, really encouraged me to skate in my early years. He was phathoms above me in skating so I naturally ended up filming him and that set my life on the path it’s taken until now. Other notable Bray legends: Katie Taylor (best female boxer ever) James Joyce (I’m exactly 100 years younger than him to the day). Bono’s not really a legend but he lived in Bray. There was a woman called “Knickers” who we’d call her name and she’d set her dogs on us during Gaelic football practice (and call our mother’s prostitutes, the nerve!) She’s a great Bray legend.
