Dorkzone 2 – Le Boxx

Dorkzone 2 – Le Boxx is an arty evolution of the first Dorkzone project. The idea behind the project is to produce content that gives access to skate culture that isn’t just focused on tricks and good skating. This time around the animations have evolved from stop-motion cardboard cut-outs to hand-drawn flowy cell animations from Mike all once again set against an original soundtrack from Sondre Mortensen. The film stars Gabbe Viking, Mimmi Leckius, Moa Zander, Amandus Mortensen, and Sondre Mortensen.

The Dorkzone videos are the tip of the iceberg to the Dorkzone universe, which has evolved into creative workshops that teach kids animation, giant skatepark murals, books, exhibitions and soundtracks.

Names behind this project: Mike O’Shea, Nils Svensson, and Phil Evans.

We have a pleasure of catching it on Sunday 29th at the National park Brijuni.

Ye Olde Destruction

For the last 7 years artist and filmmaker Thomas Campbell has been making a self funded skateboarding movie, mainly shot on 16mm film titled Ye Olde Destruction. The video comes with a solid grip of shredders building and skating DIY spots, some street action, pools, and other stuff.

It’s really about capturing sessions and the movement of the life and happenings in these situations.

Campbell has enlisted an A list team of lensmen to help him capture the motion picture scenarios and shreddings – French Fred, Jon Miner, Mike Manzoori and Connor Wyse among others. The film also embodies and unveils the inter web of a community, a community of outlaws nonetheless, but a community.

Featuring skaters: Evan Smith, Jon Dickson, Jason Adams, Rick Mccrank, Max Schaaf, Caswell Berry, Brent Atchley, Ellisa Steamer, Ray Barbee, Al Partanen, Omar Salazar, Jackson Pilz and many many more.

The film screening is supported with a live soundtrack playing at the spot by Sergej Vutuc, Nenad Sinkauz and Miodrag Gladović (Jomi Ajjomi).

We are enjoing this treat on Sunday 29th at the Brijuni island.

Pearls by Jim Craven

Jim Craven is coming to us with Pearls, a project exploring the European works of Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. Dotted across the continent, Calatrava’s buildings and bridges follow a design style that makes his work uniquely skateable. Featuring an ensemble cast of Carhartt WIP riders including Sylvain Tognelli, Ollie Lock, Joe Gavin, Gabriel Engelke, and Jonas Skroder.

I’m still filming it so I don’t know exactly but it’ll be about 10 minutes long.

The video plays at the Brijuni island on Sunday the 29th of September.

Waltzing in Croatia

A big thanks goes to Spencer Legebokoff for writing this article about Vladimir 2019 that was published at the King skateboard magazine

The normally culturally homogenous town was quickly taken over by the sounds of powerslides and Ollies, and I quickly realized why Fažana was the perfect place for skaters to gather: the sea was warm, coffee breaks were long, and nobody ever felt the need to lock their doors.

We are hosting an exhibition all the way from Brasil at Vladimir 2018. Dornelândia is a collaborative project between skaters and artists. The product of this collaboration is going to be presented at the Brioni hotel in Fažana on Thursday 27th of September starting from 19:00 h.

During four months, Alexandre Cotinz, Murilo Romão e Renato Custódio occupied an artistic space named Esquesso, located in Largo da Batata – one of the most iconic skate and culture spots of São Paulo.

An experimental project of investigation and resignification of the relationship between skateboarding and sound.

Kaštel fortress – addition to the festival

Part of the program is set at a new location thanks to our new partner The Historical and Maritime Museum of Istria. The new location is the wonderful hilltop fortress Kaštel situated in the heart of Pula.

On Saturday 29th we will be premierly presenting The Skatrix, a video installation made by Coan Nichols and Rick Charnoski. Don’t miss out on this one!

You can find more information about the fortress and the location here.
