We are starting hard & strong this year. The first segment of the VFF 2016 program to be announced is the one and only Sergej Vutuc. Skater, artist and photographer known widely to the skate community will be presenting his work with a solo exhibition in the Cvajner gallery as an extension to the standard format of the festival. Vladimir is is going to take place on the 23rd – 25th of September in Fažana and Pula.
“Vutuc’s work reaffirms that the skateboarder is not a detached voyeur of urban modernity. He has to constantly engage with his environment, re-invent and make new use out of it. His gaze, like Vutuc’s, is a nomadic one. It is always searching for things that are usable, beautiful or just plain fun, things he can invest himself in. These fragments become the raw material for stories the „mouth can never say,“ stories privileged for the eye.”
More about his work on his site and shop.
An independent film from Pekka Løvås shot entirely in Norway came out sometime last year. Shame we did not have a chance to introduce this video on the 2015 festival edition.
Sure filming a line at Paral-lel is probably funner than having two hoodies under a puffer jacket and trying to skate some ledge that won’t grind in downtown Oslo but the footage will never look as good to me. It’s all about being proud of where you’re from. Oh and also, I was broke.

Last summer a bunch of numerous Hungarians, the Rios crew, came to Pula for the VFF2015 to present their latest video. We received the edit just few minutes before announcing the official program, but it was without the title. Oleg and I came out with the name “Jönnek”, as we were writing the line-up here on the blog. Video is now online and you can watch it here!
Fifteen members of the crew stayed at already famous Oleg’s house in Fažana. It was their second trip to Croatia, but relatively short stay, so they didn’t wasted a minute. The outcome is skateboarding at it’s best, with a small glimpse into the festival mood and featuring Rios’ member of honor, Aymeric Nocus.
It was a great pleasure to have them here in Fažana and Pula for VFF 2015 and we are looking forward to see what will they come up with, for the next edition of the festival, VFF 2016!

Eleventh hour from Jacob Harris, is one of the most exiting skate video projects that came out in 2013. Theories of Atlantis web page ranked it as the best independent skate video from last year.
