What others see far, I leave behind

For the opening of the festival, we prepared a group exhibition titled What others see far, I leave behind and it opens at the Brijuni hotel on Thursday 26th of September starting from 7pm. From different parts of the world, we have works by seven artists: Tom Delion, Peter Fettich, Janne Garbowski, Jordan Hill, Brian LottiRicardo Napoli, and Pete Thompson.

The sound of the distance is loud and even though you don’t hear it, you feel it. Every time you miss somebody, every time you ache to go somewhere. You feel it in these images and you can hear it roar.

Matej Počervina

On Thursday 26th of September, we are hosting a photo exhibition by Matej Počervina in the yard of the Brioni hotel. A skateboarder, photographer, musician from Slovenia and the organizer of Ivan skate festival in Ljubljana.

Skate market

On Thursday and Friday once again we showcase some of the best independent brands from Europe at the skate market. Lots of stuff from T-shirts and hoodies to DVDs and decks. The shop opens at 7pm.

All of you interested in participating let us know so we can reserve you a table stand for free!

The Ultimate Pessertive Remix

Javier Varillas was born in Salamanca (Spain) where he started skateboarding in 2001. It was in 2007 when Varillas sparked an interest in documenting the life and travels of skateboarders, this is when his journey as an amateur skateboard videographer began. In 2011, his first independent skate video Harder Than It Seems was released, where Varillas showed the incipient state of his audiovisual style. His second full-length, Každýden, came in 2016. This video documented the skateboarding and life of the emerging (and genuine) Pilsen’s Pessertive Crew from 2014 to 2016. During the last two years of his stay in Pilsen (2017-2018), Javier Varillas filmed (with the help of Michal Majer) and conceptualized his new independent skateboard video, The Ultimate Pessertive Remix. The video captures skating by Martin Meliš, Filip Sauer, Javier Varillas, Pavel Hiršl, Michal Majer, Lumír Benda, and Jakub Karlík, and is shot by Javier Varillas and Michal Majer with a Panasonic SDR camcorder.

The 20-minute skate video collects the day-and-night highlights of the Pilsen’s Pessertive Crew and their supporting squad (Pessertivity). The conceptual content is separated into 6 remixed, interconnected sections that meticulously intertwine contemporary bits with the rough sound and movement of street and DIY skating, where creativity and spontaneity are the fundamental audiovisual and skateboarding the identity of the entire film.

The Ultimate Pessertive Remix displays a fresh portrait of not only the Pilsen skate scene but also of the currently healthy state of independent Czech (and European) skateboarding.

Check it out on Thursday 26th at the Brioni Hotel in Fažana starting from 8pm.

Ciao by Ricardo Napoli

The diversity of styles, personalities, and cultures in NYC are what makes skateboarding here exceptional. Ricardo Napoli’s video Ciao, filmed entirely in New York, is dedicated to the creative minds from the five boroughs and across the globe who make this city what it is.

Ricardo Napoli is a Brazilian born photographer and videographer who has called New York City home since a young age. His work over more than a decade of shooting professionally spans from fashion and commercial photography/videography to documentation of works by premier contemporary artists, but his roots stemming from skateboarding run deep and it is a constant source of inspiration for his independent projects. His works can be seen in books and magazine publications worldwide, he has also supplied visual goods for major sneakers and skateboard brands.

Thursday 26th at the Brioni hotel in Fažana. See you there!

10 years of To Ni Hec video

Obsession 2009, Tomaž Šantl‘s To Ni Hec is one of the most influential skate videos in Balkan 2000s era. An amazing skating with an even more amazing soundtrack with the Film crew packed all together. We can’t choose a better place to celebrate its 10th birthday right here on Vladimir.

History will be written again on the 26th of September on Thursday night at the hotel Brioni in Fažana.

Krzysztof Godek

Krzysztof Godek (1990), a skateboard filmmaker and photographer from Poland.

I hate it but I’m addicted to stack fresh clips.

The idea of this video, titled If You don’t skate – don’t start, was to collect the best possible polish footage during 1 year of shooting and focusing only on that. Living in a van and filming all day, every day, going to various cities all around Poland (mostly Warsaw) and close surroundings like Prague, Ukraine, etc. and shooting skaters from 17 to 40 years old. Quick moves, fresh spots or new ways of skating at popular spots, stylish landings only, quite heavy selection of footage, hip hop…

I try to film only fresh, interesting stuff. I just want to make a video that I’d like to see myself. I hope You’ll like it and find out more about our scene.

Take a look at this independent Poland video on Friday 27th of September at the Piazza Grande. Screenings start from 8pm.

Kirill Korobkov secret exhibition

Kirill Korobkov had sent us some photos for Vladimir but he didn’t know about our plan for his exhibition so he is also on the hunt! This show titled Point and shoot is secret! It’s hidden somewhere in Fažana. And you have to find it to check it out. For the duration of the festival, we are gonna give you hints so stay in the loop with our website and facebook page!

Here are a few words about it from Kiril:

I like to think of traveling as the best university. It gives you knowledge and opens you eyes on places you’ve never heard of. It is also the most entertaining way to learn things and facts. Traveling helps you to understand better even yourself. Traveling and skateboarding is a powerful combo that makes both things even better. Skateboarding takes you to different places. Traveling makes skateboarding a better tool to discover our world. The proverb says that traveling is the only thing money can buy that makes you richer. After traveling with skaters for around 15 years I am not going to argue with it. We don’t remember days but we remember moments.

Becoming an object by Urška Preis

Becoming an object is a process that holds in its essence a productive contradiction, it’s a critique of a modern society, where everything alien or deviant gets reduced to a grotesque, marginalised object. The main focus is in a so-called ‘tramp stamp’, a phrase that’s transformed from meaning a sexually promiscuous female to a scarred consequence that comes from expressing an act of resistance, which is being a skater.

Urška Preis (1992) is a visual artist, musician and music journalist born in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Exhibition is set for Thursday night in Kasarna!

Peter Fettich “Rispect the boul”

Last year Vladimir hosted Peter Fettich in Kasarna, where he exhibited a series of more than 100 hand printed photographs taken in Fažana from 2013 on, taking over the whole space. This year he’s coming back with his debut photo book RISPECT THE BOUL!, that premieres in the Fažana DIY skatepark on Friday 27.9. at noon.

It’s in your face and it is unapologetic.

Rich Gilligan

At a glance, his subject and narrative seem simple, even carefree. BW photographs depicting a scene… the making of DIY skateparks and the subculture behind it. But this is his home turf. The spectator dives into the imagery fast and hard. In deviation from mass branding or mainstream influences, the DIY scene is full of friendship, laughs, pain and sweat.

I feel, as if the author shifts me to places I know very well, but have never seen or observed in such a way before.

Tibor Rep

Kasarna ghetto open

It’s time we step up the game! Kasarna ghetto open is an official Ping pong competition taking place in the open space near Kasarna on Friday 27th starting from 1pm with the registration of the players and from 2pm the game is on!

Not into Ping pong? No worries, DIY skate park session is near, 2 meters down You don’t skate either? Well fuck you and go for a swim 20 meters down. It’s all there!

Pandora’s box by Luka Pinto

Pandora’s box is volume one of a project Luka Pinto has been working on titled Crew Report. The video documents the Jersey scene between 2016 – 2019. It features Glen Fox, Ryan Cunningham, Dillon Catney, Roberts Krums, Eduardo Da Rocha, Jeremy Jones and Luka Pinto amongst many friends.

The video is called Pandora’s Box and the name is an idea that i had about Jersey looking like a neat little package of a happy clappy island, but in my view, holds a darker side where people are obsessed with money and become bored here so smash the booze and drugs.

Pandora’s box plays on Friday 27th in Fažana at the Piaza Grande.
